An online click and collect service in December? Only Herve Tabourel!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

WOW - how did that happen? How did it end up as December? It just seems like a few weeks ago we were all working hard to get Duo opened and it’s almost a year already. What a year though! Duo has just been a flying success from the off and Herve has revelled in this; his own personal dream striking such a chord with everyone.

That dream got bigger - of course it did, my husband is at the other end of it! - and before you know it I'm in the middle of a new online shop AND Christmas.  Of course, I've left the whole thing to Herve but I am secretly very pleased with it.  We had our first order placed just hours after it went live and the excitement that spun around the office was palpable! I have managed to rein in a delivery service (you just KNOW that's next year's project don't you?!) so we're offering a simple click and collect at the moment. But you know, this is perfect for hampers, macaron gifts and deli groceries.  Pyjamas on, wine in hand, browsing through and ordering all those little extras. We're on 24 hour’s notice at the moment which Herve isn't happy with - he wants hot pizzas to be ordered as little as 30 minutes in advance. I know he's right, but for heaven's sake its December, we're packed out!

"After Christmas!" I keep saying! So look out for this in January...

I wrote a lengthy blog earlier in the year about Herve's dedication and vision and he's proofing me right as the products and services we're offering in Duo are just so forward thinking. I know lots of sites do takeaway delivery - it’s hardly revolutionary! But these big sites like Tesco and Just Eat can't capture the service and artisan quality that we're delivering hand in glove with the technology.  I do feel like we're part of something that's much bigger and I love it. As you know. I'm a born show off - bigger is always better in my book!

Perhaps this is why I've gotten my own personal hobby horse out and I'm determined to take Herve's macarons to the masses! Provender Brown are stocking our bread and our macarons now and this has got me started on approaching other outlets from a wholesaler point of view. I know I'm biased - I adore those little sweet nibbles of perfection - but the feedback we have had from other people on the macarons is also amazing!

Not to start with mind you... To start with they looked a bit ill! They tasted great, divine in fact, but they looked more - let’s say rustic. I had this vision of the French Patisseries in Paris, row upon row of brightly coloured, perfect little drops of heaven. We were a bit like their rough and ready cousin from the sticks to begin with! Not now though.... I just love walking by the cabinet in Duo and seeing the rows of gorgeous, coloured treats and I can't wait to walk into other outlets and proudly say... "They are my husband's macarons!"

Like everything, this didn't happen overnight.  Herve's strive for perfection drove me nuts before you had those amazing gift boxes to hand over to your loved ones! 4 months he practiced the recipes, the shape, the size, the flavours... 4 MONTHS!! I had just gotten the kids back off to uni and there I was, having sleepless nights with him pacing the room thinking about his macarons!

"Buy them in!" I shouted one night. Bad idea. I thought after 25 years together, divorce was coming my way, let me tell you!  But that's Herve. My husband is my husband and this means we didn't sleep trying to perfect a carrot macaron (it is amazing!!) and we started an online click and collect service in the middle of the busiest month of the year - "It's when people want to order gifts! It’s the perfect time!" he said.

He's right of course. And that's what happens when you're married to a leader... you never follow, it’s never boring, and you almost never get a full night's sleep!

Go on over to the shop and have a look - we'd love your feedback!

I'm going to wish you a very Merry Christmas and an amazing New Year (I may squeeze in another blog, but maybe not!). Thank you so, so much for your continued support of Pig Halle and Duo. It means the world to us.
