Happy New Year Everyone!

WOW! What a year 2013 turned out to be for us... All of the usual celebration of Hogmanay was elevated into a new dimension as Herve and I reflected on the year gone past.  It was without doubt one of the most amazing years we have had in our 25 years as restaurateurs. 

It started, of course, with Herve’s dream of Duo coming to fruition.  His tireless energy and sleepless nights culminated in our Pizzeria, Deli and casual Mediterranean eatery that you have all embraced almost as passionately as he has! Duo has been a staggering hit, bringing home to me that people know good quality and great value when they get it. Our freshly prepared, wood oven baked pizzas are the same price as some of the fast food chains around here…. People are not fools, of course they dumped Dominoes!  (I think I can say that – is it rude? Tool ate - it is my blog after all!). 

Herve’s trip to Paris to retrain in boulangerie was one of the highlights of his year and the fresh bread smell whirling round the restaurant is now the highlight of my morning! The suppliers we have been able to attract for the Deli means our wine selection is superb, our hams and cheeses are top knotch and of course, the homemade antipasti was always going to be delicious (I'm not bragging - but my chefs read this and I like to stay on their good side!). So good did it all turn out, that we were chosen by one of our dear customers when she was filmed for Come Dine With Me in November!

So that was Duo! Busy, busy, busy with Sylvie run off of her feet....  and then we opened an online click and collect shop! We waited until Christmas when we knew it wouldn't be too hectic (ironically!) and we could let the system settle in.  But look out for all of our Duo goodies being made available to you very, very soon! The idea is you can sit in your office or at home and order your shopping or pizzas for collection.  Click on a bottle of wine, some fresh bread, a hot pizza and hey presto, all you have to do is run in and pick it up! I reckon it will be so quick you'll be able to leave the car running (DO NOT tell the traffic wardens I said that - or your boss if you're ordering from the office!) 

2013 + Pig’Halle = Stratospheric!

From RichaDenny joins the PigHalle Teamrd Bath’s Scotsman review in May this year it has been one amazing piece of news after the other. My good friend said to me recently “I am almost sick of congratulating you!” Scottish Field, The Courier and Perthshire Advertiser all followed the Scotsman’s lead and gave us rave reviews… The icing on the cake was our entry into the Michelin guide for 2014. We drank quite a few toasts to that one! Just as we thought our year couldn’t get better, along came the cherry for the top and we were awarded an AA Rosette…. I know, I saved that news for this blog!  We are all thrilled – I was momentarily lost for words (just a few seconds you understand!)


How do we top this? Well, as always Herve has a big picture in his beautiful head and we have plans afoot! Part of this plan has been to find someone as passionate as we are about restaurants and we were delighted when Denny came back to Perth and joined the team here at Pig’Halle. Many of you will remember his smiling face from Briezh, I’m sure! He is full of the youthful enthusiasm and energy that you need to keep pace with this crazy industry. Me, I have the enthusiasm, but if I’m honest, some weeks my get up and go has got up and gone!  I need someone I can trust so that I can work like a normal person (you know 40 or 50 hours!!) and in Denny I feel we have that. I know you’re going to love him as much as I do!

Bespoke Macaroons for Red StringThat leaves Herve and I a little bit of time to work on our wholesale plans… Yes, you did read that correctly! We want to supply the wonderful breads, frangipane and macarons that Duo has become so synonymous with, to lots of other delis, cafés and restaurants! Wouldn’t that be amazing? We have already started with Provender Brown and at Christmas we supplied our PR Nicki with over 200 macarons for her clients and press contacts. All branded up and looking gorgeous we hear they were a huge hit!  If you’d like some foodie corporate gifts or fresh deli produce for your own business then give me a shout!

Don't worry though, I could never leave Front of House. This is just a little side step a few hours a week.  I love the buzz, the atmosphere and the fun of our customers; I really would miss you all too much. 

So, here's to 2014! I hope it is an outstanding year for you and your families and that you will find a little time to spend with us. We look forward to serving you all very, very soon!
